Hindus believe that the our body is given to us as a gift from the gods and so when someone dies they cremate the body and scatter the ashes on the river to give it as an offering to the gods.
As the river Ganges is sacred most Hindus prefer to have their ashes scatted there.
We (hindus) are the oldest culture present on earth, hindu is not a religion, it is a way of living life, unlike other religions which focuses on one single form of god, hindu culture is based of numerous gods ( around 330 million ) and in this culture, it is believed that every living being is having a spirit which is a part of God, as one dies, the spirit leaves the body and either continues to take birth as other creature or rejoin God, thus every human being in Hinduism is believed to reunite into god, like the river rejoins the ocean after a long journey, it is to symbolize that human being never dies, it just rejoin the mighty one (god) being a part of him. As quoted in hinduism
नैनं छिन्दन्ति शस्त्राणि नैनं दहति पावकः।
न चैनं क्लेदयन्त्यापो न शोषयति मारुतः।।
Hindus bury/cremate the dead and their ashes are immersed in a holy river, generally Haridwar.
because it is sacred and it is like your getting bapitized .
they take a dip in the river to spiritually enhance their current state of mind and to become one with god.
I am not sure abt the particular caste but all Hindus never cremate the bodies of young children. The very young children (infants etc) are provided proper burial after death.
River Ganges is a Holy river for many religions. Hindus believe bathing in the river purifys them. The river is also used for "water burial". A floatable pyre is constructed for the body and set alight, it is then released into the river.
They put ashes which pollute the river
its a river in india and they wash thier clothes in it bathe in it and they also sprinkle the ashes of dead relatives in it also
The average weight of cremated human remains, also known as ashes or cremains, is around 5-7 pounds for an adult. This weight can vary depending on factors such as the person's size and bone density.
The thing that holds dead man ashes is called an Urn I believe :)

Pollution has affected the Ganges and the Yangtze rivers in many different ways. - The Ganges river is known to Hindus as a sacred river, so they wash their clothes in the river, take a bath there, put dead cows in (because cows are sacred to Hindus), put dead bodies in, and put their sewage and waste in. - The Yangtze river is full of chemical waste, trash, and sewage. It is very polluted.
