If you are between the ages of 10 and 16-years-old then you are growing much quicker than previously. Everything is changing, body, brain included. You have hormones rushing around your body trying to help it change into an adults. These hormones are natural and come with Puberty. Puberty can be a very trying time for the person going through it and the family involved too. Anger, moods, awkwardness, bad language, untidyness, provoking, looking for something to argue about, and being tired and lazy a lot are all symptoms of Puberty and how it affects you. Do you recognise any in you ? Some people will have a lot of these symptoms and others hardly any. Everyone is different in how it affects them. The good thing though is that it doesn't last forever. Puberty lasts a few years during early teenage years for most and once that is over you will become a much nicer person again ! So don't worry about it but always make up with anyone you have annoyed through these feelings of yours as soon as you feel better each time it happens. Parents and most adults understand what you are going through as it has happened to them also when they were your age.
When you get much older and go through the menopause you may feel like it again but that is a long way away for you. Ask your mum about anything I have missed as she will know !
Your mother is right when she says it is your hormones and it means just before you start your menstrual cycle the estrogen and progesterone can become imbalanced in the body during this time. Some young women have severe mood swings and should seek help from their doctor. Women go through more hormonal changes than men. There is nothing wrong with you and it is normal, but if you are depressed and it goes on for weeks talk to your mother about it and see your family doctor.
