who remains unburied, and the highest form of true kindness without any possibility

of repayment to facilitate the speedy burial.

Judaism holds that a person must be buried within 48 hours of death and ideally within 24 hours of death (the only times that a person is buried after 24 hours by Jewish law is if the person dies before Shabbat or a different holiday). A number of countries, however, have particular laws that operate to violate these Jewish customs. For example, in the UK, autopsies for people who have died in suspicious circumstances are mandatory and this delays the funeral and burial.
