Actually, this is a myth, although it may be based in some truth. Jews are not born with any more intelligence than any other religious groups. But education is a central tenet of Judaism; according to traditional Jewish belief, God has commanded the Jewish people to study, and learning is thus a mitzvah (a positive action that makes the world better). As a result, most Jewish parents regularly encourage their children to get as much education as possible.
Since there is so much focus and emphasis placed on learning (and so much praise given to the children who achieve scholastically), a large percentage of Jewish kids do excel in school and on tests, including on IQ tests. But there are other religious and ethnic groups that also place great importance on learning, and those kids also do well. Most modern educational theorists do not believe that high IQ is only based on one's genes: it is also influenced by a person's upbringing and the quality of the support systems that enable and encourage that person to learn.
