If they are experienced breakers of the law in Mexico, they may find that it is not only easier to break the law in the US, the penalties may be less severe. Jail-time in the US might also be less severe.
I suppose the bigger question might be why ANYONE would intentionally break the law ANYWHERE.

Mexicans and people of any nationality should NOT be allowed to cross the U.S. borders illegally, and they certainly should NOT be allowed to stay in the U.S. if found. On the other hand, not all Mexicans are entering the U.S. illegally. Those who enter the U.S. legally should be welcome in the country.

Otherwise, you will go to jail. Do you think Mexicans break the law just "because"? They want to live the "American Dream", meaning this is just an issue of trespassing. Besides, many of them end up in jail for breaking these immigration laws.
