Missionaries of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) are usually assigned to work in pairs, and occassionally will work in groups of three. They are assigned to work this way because of a handful of verses in The Bible, including 2 Corinthians 13:1 "...In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established." and John 8:17 "...the testimony of two men is true." Working in pairs is also for safety and practicality - walking the streets preaching alone can be dangerous, but a large group is overwhelming to potential listeners.

Regular Church members who are not serving as missionaries don't walk around in pairs, they get around however they want either by themselves or in groups.
