Why do Muslim women cover their head and men grow a beard?

Actually, both Orthodox Jewish and religious Muslim women cover their heads; this is a middle-eastern custom that historically was meant to show both modesty and respect for God (Allah), the One who is above you. Since the hair was regarded as sexual in some cultures, women who wanted to show they were modest, especially married women, kept their hair covered, a custom that has survived in these (and some other) religions. Muslim women who wear the hijab (head covering) are thus showing their dedication to Islam by this visible sign of their faith.

As for the facial hair for men, once again, both Orthodox Jewish men and religious Muslim men observe this custom. Many men in Biblical times had facial hair, and there was a Biblical verse about not cutting the corners of one's beard. Similarly, while the Holy Qur'an did not mention the importance of beards, later sayings (Hadith) attributed to the prophet Muhammad did say this; these verses asserted that men should have a beard as a sign of piety and devotion to Islam. Also, many Muslim scholars believe the prophet himself had a beard, so for men to grow one is a sign of respect.

Their duties are different. If you pay a little attention to it you will understand the difference. Many Muslim women don't cover their heads and so do Muslim men. Most of Humans follow religion provided it does not come in their way to fulfillment of their desires.
