Muslims sacrifice a animals at hajj for many reasons:
- it is God command as one of the hajj ritual worships
- to remember the obedience of prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to God command to him to sacrifice his son Ismael and when both Ibrahim and Ismael was on the point to obey God command, God sent the sheep to be sacrificed in place of Ismael. So, Muslims to remember to obey God commands at no debate.
- to offer from its meat to the poor and needy people

The sacrifice reminds the Muslims how Hazrat Abraham (AS) got ready to sacrifice his son Hazrat Ismaieel (AS). It teaches the Muslims to be ready to sacrifice every thing in the way of Almighty Allah.
