This is what Lady Hajar, wife of Prophet Abraham [Ibrahim] did when she was left alone with her son, Ishmael [Ismail] in land of Makkah, they ran out of food and water, she ran to the Safa, hoping to find water, or a human being, and asking Allah for His blessings, found nothing, she ran to the Marwa, then inspecting her son, she did that 7 times when she heared the sound of running water at the legs of her son, she ran to him and thanked her Lord for His blessings.

They jog around Safa and Marwa in remembrance of the Jogging of Hajar (prophet Abraham wife) between Safa and Marwa in search for water for her Baby Ismael who was crying for need of water. Then Hajar after seven times going between Safa and Marwa (from Safa to Marwa is one time, then back from Marwa to Safa is second time, ...etc) noticed that Ismael stopped crying. When she went to him, she found the God miracle that water is flowing out of a spring and dispersing in the desert sand. She tried to prevent water dispersion and that is why the spring is called "Zamzam" which is an Arabic word that means collect and contain.
