Squirrels will chew on almost anything including electrical wires. In fact, one of the biggest reasons for blackouts in some areas is squirrels chewing on electric wires. They are one of the biggest pests to the electric companies. The reason for their chewing is that their teeth, unlike human teeth, are constantly growing and getting longer. Therefore, one of the reasons they chew is to grind down their teeth.
