Why do dogs suck on pillows?

Depends on whether it is a puppy or not. Usually young fur beings will suck on material things when they have been weaned or taken away from it's mother too soon. It's trying to suckle to get it's mothers milk. Not all dogs suck on pillows, unless you have dropped food on it and it needs washed.

Dogs can't properly suck. Due to the shape of their snouts and mouths, they cannot create the suction needed to suck things. Your dog is probably chewing it or just holding it in their mouth. Not all dogs do this.

It is a common sign that your dog was weaned too early from his or her mother. The holding of the soft, warm pillow and kneading of the paws are imitations of drinking milk from a mother as a puppy. Dogs who are removed from their mothers too early become slightly emotionally "stressed" and need more comforting than normal.

If this isn't the case then your dog is probably bored and is using the pillow as a toy. If this is the case then you need to get him or her some toys and play with him/her often.

Or it might be that your dog has a toothache and is chewing to either try and ease the pain it to try and pull his/her own tooth out. Someone should gently look into your dog's mouth for signs of decayed teeth, broken teeth or food stuck between teeth. See a vet if you're worried or spot something abnormal in his or her mouth.

To mark their territory, usually. They want to rub their scent onto the pillows so any intruders or the family itself is aware of the dog's presence.
