it really depends, i think it might be because bass Guitars are heavier then guitars so maybe they just let the bass kinda hang instead of having to carry all that weight on their back, but there are bass players who don't wear their basses to low, just look at videos of The Strokes, their basist Nikolai Fraiture wears it not so low....but it really depends on how it feels most comfortable for you.
