That answer above did not really answer the question at all. The reason that the largest animals eat the smallest is due to energy lost with each level up the foodchain. As you go each level up on the foodchain approximately 10% of energy is lost as heat. Only a small portion of energy is conserved as biomass. Thus in order for a large animal to get enough energy it would need a very large supply of its food source which is most readily available in the form of small animals at the bottom of the foodchain such as krill.
Yes...whales consume krill and tiny shrimp and shrimp like animals.
No. Gray Whales feed on benthic crustaceans that are found on the sea bed. The whale scoops up sediments from the sea floor and filters out edible particles and feeds on them. Crustaceans like Krill, small lobster, shrimp etc would form the food chain of the gray whale.
It depends on the whale. Whales are generally divided into two groups. One is the toothed whales, which are carnivorous. The other group is the baleen whales, which use baleen to strain plankton from the ocean waters. Plankton is the term applied to an extremely broad group of tiny living things that inhabit a particular zone or depth range in the waters. And there are some that are animals, and some that are plants - which is where we were going with our explanation. The toothed whales are carnivorous, and the baleen whales strain tiny animals and plants from the ocean. Since the baleen whales eat both the tiny plants and animals, they probably aren't herbivores. A link is provided to the Wikipedia article on whales and on plankton. Surf on over and have a look.
The most common animals found in the South Pole are penguins, such as the emperor penguin and Adelie penguin. Other animals that inhabit the region include seals, such as the Weddell seal and fur seal, as well as various species of birds like skuas and Snow petrels.

50,000,000 years ago. Horses were small, birds were big, and whales had legs and ambushed animals that came too close, like a horse.
Like all animals, blue whales belong to the animal kingdom.
cetacia.... or something like that
No, blue whales like eating krill and fish. Not humans. Blue whales are extremely marvellous animals though.
All animals have predators of some sort or other. Some can be very small like viruses or bacteria and in this case, it can be humans.

Some have flippers like seals and whales :d
Many carnivores eat small animals. Wolves eat small animals such as rabbits. Domestic cats can eat small animals like mouses, rats, frogs, birds, and if there lucky the occasional bunny, depending of coarse on what region they live in. Foxes eat small animals. Many wild cats do also. Sharks eat small fish. Whales eat krill and other tiny marine life. Snakes eat small rodents, birds and the like. Birds of prey eat small mammals, fish, occasional reptiles. Wild dogs eat small prey. Certain types of lizards also eat small animals... That is just a small fraction of the animals that eat small animals. TONS of animals eat small animals, the list would go on for pages!
Ocean animals like whales, dolphins, porpoises, seals and others are mammals.
Humpback whales are not that nasty. They are very friendly and peaceful creatures. Like all whales, they are curious animals who are protective of each other.
They vary in size, some small like the white whale, but the largest creature known to man at this moment, is the Blue Whale at over 103ft.
