Terrier is laden for "earth." You have a dog that is going to be especially interestd in digging as a result. So don't yell or punish for what has been bred into him/her. Additionally, you have a high energy type dog that needs a lot of stimulation. Boredom, frustraton and being left alone with a lack of stimulation will cause digging. Leaving these dogs in the backyard alone without human interraction for extended periods of time will force them to get into mischief such as digging.
