This is actually a horrible explanation. Humans are mammals because we have hair. Dogs are mammals because they have fur.

Camels are mammals, and the numerous sources I've viewed indicate that camels have hair, rather than fur.

Again, to say, "hair [because] they are mammals," is rather ignorant to the definition of "mammal." All mammals have hair or fur.

Camels have little hair, because they don't need it in the kind of weather they live in which is obviously very warm so they don't need as much hair to keep warm.
