Camels do dehydrate... though they can go without water for about 15 days
Despite what other people say, water is not stored in the camel's hump... The hump does help lessen the chance of dehydration, but it is made of fatty tissue and is very helpful to the camel when it is in starvation mode.
In addition, the camel's liver and kidneys are very efficient at retaining water. like many other desert animals, urine forms a thick syrup.

Camels actually store fat in their humps. Excessive nutrients that the camel does not currently need are converted into fat and stored in the humps. These nutrients come from plants, seeds and water.
1,000g of fat in the camels hump can yield the equivalent to 1,111g of water when metabolised.
In summary, camels do not physically store water in their humps. They store fatty tissue containing nutrients which is metabolised when the camel needs those nutrients.

∙ 14y agoCamels can die of starvation and/or dehydration. They can only go for just over a week without water, and if they are denied the opportunity to drink, then yes, they will become dehydrated and die. Their humps do not contain water, but fat.
