how does friction help car tyres?
Purely for safety and economical purposes. Tyres with no threads have no grip and can be very dangerous to drive on. Tyres that are defect can also cause the car not roll smoothly which uses more petrol to power the car. Hydroplaning is only fun if you are not the owner of the vehicle! It CAN be quite dangerous to do so.
because if the tyres are of metal the will slip

You are able to switch to conventional tyres if you currently are equipped with Run-Flat tyres even if you have a mini cooper. The only thing that i would inform you of is that if you change to conventional (Normal Tyres) then you would need to change all the tyres that are on the same axle to make sure that the vehicle will not pull to one side when driving. Other factors that will be effected due to not changing both tyres to conventional tyres on the same axle will include; The braking distance of the vehicle and the drive off the car. These are very important things that you need to keep in mind when changing from Run-Flat to conventional tyres.
