Sometimes as cats get older, they become lazy and don't groom as often. Maybe your cat isn't feeling well, try giving it some hairbal gel from the pet store. Possibly your cat is in pain somewhere and just can't reach the spots like it did before. Give it a bath on a warm day, make sure kitty gets totally dried off.

Sometimes cats may groom themselves whether they want to be extra clean or they feel they are not clean enough. You may have to wash your cat once in a while since they cannot always groom themselves properly. Also, if a cat is licking itself too much if can develope a large hairball that they may choke on. It's better to check with your vet to see what the real problem is just to be sure.

1) your cat likes the scent/taste of your hair products

2) your cat has accepted you into their social group and extend the gift of grooming you and they do each other. also note, they may bring you the fruit of their hunting- dead or maybe not quite- as a gift when you have been accepted. they will also rub their foreheads against you in an effort to 'tag' you; leave some of their scent on YOU as an indentifier- 'this human is MINE-'.

Well the same reason that you bathe yourself. Too get clean. Cats don't like water so the don't like to take baths so they need to clean themselves someway. Grooming themselves is that way!

Why do cough up hairballs?

when cats lick their fur, they swallow the hair that they picked up and after a while they throw up. Unlike dogs, cats groom themselves by constantly licking themselves, top to bottom. That is why you rarely have to give them baths. They have tongues that are like sandpaper, and when they lick their fur, it pulls the hair and everything on it into their mouths and stomachs. Because they do this, they have a lot of undigested hair in their insides, which eventually has to come out. Not only do they groom themselves, but also in situations involving multiple cats, they may even groom each other.
