When a cat rubs his face against an object, he is leaving his scent. There's a gland located in the face, that produces this scent. This is to help him know who, and what is his territory. So when a cat rubs his face against yours he is leaving his scent on you.

∙ 13y agoCanines have scent glands in their facial area. Sometimes, this can be a display of attempted dominance. Essentially they are putting their scent on you and marking their territory. However, sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. They could have an itchy face, or just want affection. If you are having dominance problems with your dog, there will be several behavioral events that will all fit like the pieces to a puzzle, and this could be a piece of that puzzle. I suggest you consult a canine psychologist if there are further issues.

If your dog does this, it most likely is showing affection to you, or the thing it is rubbing
