Christians never hated witches, it began with the roman-catholics. They burned down 'witches', mostly women who used herbs and stuff like that to heal wounds and illnesses. They were considered a threat to the religion, because the pope was spreading the word that only god can heal you, and ilnesses are his divine wrath. not only christians are the ones who thought this though, all over the history there are several religions who said only the gods could heal, or it was their punishment. that's as properly as I can answer it.
