Poor dental hygiene, most likely.

It depends on breed and age. (Keeping in mind that they're going to find the foulest stuff to eat and roll in imaginable all the time).

Think about what you see them lick! (Curiously, a dog bite is a lot cleaner than a human byte in terms of bacteria).

DentaBonez (TM) may do the trick (but they're very pricey in my book). Just bush their teeth -- they'll get used to it eventually -- usually a week or two. You brush, they get brushed. They will be minty fresh.

If symptoms persist, see your Vet as it could also reflect cavities or worse.

Usually people don't clean dogs' teeth. That's why a dog's breath stinks. If you don't brush your teeth your breeth will stink too.
