Firstly dogs will bark to warn their owners that someone that does not belong at their home is present. Then if their owners know the people quite often they will bark in excitement and to say, hey if my owners know you then you need to know me to (basically to be centre of attention) and all of this is acceptable. It is when they continue to bark after a short period of time then this needs attention and training to say it is not acceptable.

∙ 14y agoDogs bark at people mostly because they are trying to protect their "Master". Also, they could be excited but most often just to protect you! If your dog barks, don't always yell at them right away, see what it is they are barking at. Praise them for trying to protect you. Only punish them when they bark at cats or other dogs, but not to harshly. Also when they start to get a little carried away, just give them a little bop on the nose or raise you voice, but not to extreme!
