There are many reasons - The main one is peer pressure. Many users start because their 'friends' do it (think how many kids start smoking just because their school-mates think it's 'cool') ! Experimentation - some people who are already hooked on 'legal' drugs such as alcohol and tobacco get used to their 'high' - and seek something a little stronger. Bordom - a small minority of users simply take drugs because they have nothing more stimulating in their lives.
