It is sweating, an attempt to cool off. Much the same process as sweating amongst the higher animals although different organs are involved. Please don't experiment to much with this phenomena its cruel.

Can duck eggs be soft?

They lay soft eggs because they aren't getting enough nutrients in their diet. (More food.) Our littlest duck laid a soft egg, because she got pushed around at the food bowl. I suggest Dumor feeds, they seem to do the trick for chickens and ducks. You can hand feed them to fix this, or put out several food bowls so she can have a chance to eat.

How long after Peking Duck lays eggs can you incubate them. My duck laid her eggs on the edge of the pond then laid on them over night and now seems to have abandoned them. What can I do?

You can incubate Peking Duck eggs within 7-10 days of them being laid. If your duck has abandoned the eggs, you can try to carefully move them to an incubator or a warm, quiet place for artificial incubation. Make sure to follow proper incubation procedures and humidity levels for successful hatching.

Will a female duck ever leave her eggs?

Yes. The duck will sit on the clutch of eggs until they hatch in about 28 days from when she starts to sit on them. She does leave for short periods to eat and drink when there is nobody around. Be patient, the eggs will hatch, and soon there will be a brood of ducklings.
