What was ivory used for in ancient Egypt?

Ivory is not available as there are laws governing its use. Most products are now plastic but black market Ivory through poaching does reach the marketYou are right on most of that but if you want insight on the world of ivory check out my paper.African ivory has long been a source of beauty and prowess, yet I doubt the people who buy it have any idea of the nature of ivory. At first glance many people would probably think of the poaching that we hear of from down in Africa. We cannot deny that African ivory poaching is wrong. However people at first wanted to legalize it and these same people that made it illegal in all the countries are probably the original people who legalized it in 1999. Is African ivory poaching wrong and does it create a lot of conflicts, disable and create systems, and ruin the population of the once great African elephant. So first off, what is ivory? Ivory is a creamy white material that is made of calcium, cementum is the material that holds the tusk in place in the elephant's mouth. One of the importance's of ivory is that it is soft and easy to carve. Ivory makes up Elephant tusks (Woodson). In India and Africa people kill elephants just to take the ivory and to sell the ivory for wine, silk, and glass beads. Ivory is illegal in all African countries (Carr). Many people are just killing elephants only for their ivory. They don't use any of the meat or other parts of the body they just take the tusks. A lot of the elephants are just left to rot. Mostly males and old females are targeted because they have the most ivory on them. Around 2006 38,000 elephants were poached which is more than their reproductive rate can handle, and now because of that….. African elephants are on their way to becoming endangered. Impacts that ivory poaching has on humans is that a lot of people like looking at elephants and that they are a main tourist attraction in Africa. A geographical impact is that the ground is riddled with elephant bones. They demand and supply of this resource has made it necessary to put and leave a ban on the hunting of elephants for ivory. Some of the conflicts and problems that have arisen are elephant depopulation because of poaching and poaching because of the high demand and limited seasons for ivory. Ivory trade at one point was made legal again; on February 11th 1999 Zimbabwe was allowed to trade ivory with Japan. At the beginning of March 40,000lbs or 20 metric tons of ivory was sent to Japan. In 1977 1.3 million Elephants lived in Africa, in 1997 only 600,000 remained. Elephant poaching is still an ongoing conflict in Africa. A way of solving the disappearances of elephants on reservations is that when they leave the park they are tagged so guards know where to be and when. Experts are warning that if poaching doesn't stop; the African elephant will be extinct in 2020(JASON STRAZIUSO, 2010).Now lastly for the systems of this mess, because believe it or not, there is some order. In my personal opinion some inputs of ivory poaching would be poachers and laws. Some outputs would be poaching, laws and depopulation of elephants. The reason I say this is because poaching started a long time ago and from all that killing depopulation of elephants is happening and laws have been put up in order to stop poaching. I think that poaching was an output because after the laws were put in affect a lot more people wanted it because it wasn't being sold on a legal basis so they had to get the ivory through other means and therefore a lot of people started getting paid off to kill elephants and harvest the ivory for the countries that could not get it on a legal scale. Some interactions are man to elephant, farmer to elephant and poacher to law enforcement. The systems get weaker every time an elephant is killed because the poachers are breaking the laws and so the system is becoming dysfunctional and is breaking down because the system has been broken, same with every time a poacher goes to jail, the poaching of that one man is stopped and therefor the system is interrupted. We can't deny that elephant poaching is wrong. My personal opinion is that poaching is wrong but that if it stopped we would have to put out tags just like we do for elk or lion and all that stuff so that when they did reach their highest potential that they ever have been at they wouldn't over populate and destroy towns and maybe even entire cities. Would more be killed and nothing from their bodies will be used? Would they cause more harm than good? At the rate this is going, we may never know. Elephant poaching is bad, but is there some good in it? I hope this gives you more insight on African ivory poaching creating a lot of conflicts, disabling and creating systems, and ruining the population of the once great African elephant.
