When ferrets lived in the wild they were at risk of being eaten by other animals. By scooting into a corner to go to the bathroom it meant another animal could not sneak up behind the ferret and attack it. Ferrets, despite being domesticated haven't lost this behaviour.
A ferret defecates in corners or in the wild in underground burrows, it has one burrow as a potty area that it backs up into.
Ferrets like to choose corners, usually the closest one available. And as most animals, they also choose corners to "mark" their territory
Only if you do not clean it on a regular basis.
Clean it up and ensure the ferrets cannot enter the house.
Marijuana can not cause ferrets to go into a coma and die
Ferrets can easily navigate stairs

Yes and No. Ferrets don't need to be bathe, they groom themselves and stay clean. Water and food bowls will be tipped over, use heavy crock or non-tipping bowls. Ferrets will not potty around their food area. Ferrets have a rapid digestive system and potty about every 3 to 4 hours, If they are out of the cage and need to go, they can't hold it, and will seek out the first available corner (have extra litter pans or put newspaper in the corners). Ferrets like to hide things, like food and toys, and food can spoil (if feeding ferrets food that might spoil, don't give them more than they can eat).

If the ferrets head will fit into the hole, then the rest of their body can go through the hole
