flowers are pollinated by insect
They attract bees with their vibrant colours and sweet smell so they will want the nectar and pollen inside
I think its because flowers were created to catch people's attention,so if they don't have the bright colours and even the sweet smell there won't be any need for them to be there because they won't be recognised.
Flowers that smell like rotting meat rely on carrion flies for pollination. They pollinate as it normally does but instead of pollinators or insects to help it pollinate, other resources like wind, help the pollen get around easily due to is light weight
The "floral" smell of most flowers is sweet or fragrant. Some are too sweet. Some might be described as aromatic.
Most flowers have a sweet scent so insects will come and pollinate the plant, and allow the plant to continue to go.

The biggest difference between mums and carnations is that carnations smell sweet and spicy, a little like cloves. Chrysanthemums do not have a pleasant smell. Chrysanthemums are fall flowers and carnations are summer flowers.
