Actually, the food chain begins with the Sun. Producers are just the primary energy source, which use photosynthesis to make food. Herbivores get their energy from the plant's sugar produced during photosynthesis.

∙ 14y agoIts because every food chain starts with something small and not very strong , and in the animal world if its weak and small its not eating meat , so for example ... grass rabbit fox pretty simple but rabbits arn't strong and eat grass and vegetables and fox eats meat and can be sometimes the same size as a rabbit .

∙ 13y agoAll animals eat some other organism, whether a plant, another animal, or both. The organism that an animal eats is by definition lower on the food chain. Therefore no food chain can start with an animal. Only green plants do not have to eat other organisms. They create their own food our of sunlight, water, carbon dioxide, and various minerals that get absorbed along with the water.
