For the same reason that Americans do: they retain the ways of forming sounds that have become habits. Most people who learn a second language after the age of about 12 retain some of their native accent.
And keep in mind: to the French, we are the ones with the accents.
You either grow up in France, where the language would be fluent to you as well as the accent or you learn their language and practice the accent as much as possible. My advice would be to go to France and live there for a while where you accent would be more normal and fluent to the common language.
