I am in the same boat. I have been having a problem with the battery draining down when the frontier is not driven for a few days. My gauges and odometer also quit ocassionly but a rap on the dash restores them. I installed a knife switch on the battery to disconnect it from the system when the truck is not being driven and have not had the battery drain issue since. Sure it is a pain in the butt to use the knife switch, but it was a cheap fix for a truck that owes me nothing. If I drive the vehicle every day, the knife switch is not opened and I have had no troubles with the battery drain. I know that the short is in the dash, but do not want to disassemble.

The same thing has happened with my 98 Nissan Frontier 4X4. I troubleshot the problem, and, indeed, it is in the dashboard. Specifically, it is the IC chip on the PCB behind the speedo that receives inputs from the speed sensor, fuel sensor and temp sensor and outputs those signals to their respective gauges. Alas, the circuit board en masse is no longer available through Nissan, and I do believe you would be hard pressed to find that part aftermarket. The individual IC chip may be available through an electronics wholesaler, as that type of chip is often used in multiple applications, but I have not looked into it. That path requires some degree of proficiency in soldering. The parts fella at my local Nissan dealership told me of a firm to cities away that would likely be able to help me with it, but I haven't checked further into it. That firm is called "Tacoma Speedometer & Instrument Co". and they are on the net.

Your 1998 jeep Cherokee will turn over but wont start and the gas gauge and volt gauge not working?

unplug your crank sensor and see if your gauges start to work some of the time the crank sensor will short and cause a lot of problems if the gauges start to work replace the crank sensor if not look at the 3 wire sensors map tps and o2 sensors one of these vould be the problem also but when you unplug the sensor cycle the key off then on and give it a second and see if your gauges come back if they do mostlikely the last sensor you unpluged is the problem

Inter mitten dash gauges on a 2000 Nissan Frontier?

I was having this problem, gauges out, lights still working. Found I could get the gauges back by flicking the trip odometer reset. Went into the instrument cluster and found 2 fuses next to trip reset. Larger cylinder shaped upper, small brown rectangular below it. Lower fuse was loose, gauges would come on and off as I moved it around. I wedged it in place with gauges working, and all is well. I think this fuse is replaceable, but pulled on it pretty good and it didn't want to come. Trip to dealer parts desk in order. gt

Why would the oil and temperature gauges still register after a Chevrolet G20 van sits for several days?

cause when you shut off the van the power to the gauges is cut off completely, so the gauges will stay wherever they were at until the next time you start the vehicle.
