Why do girls shave their genitals?

I don't think that "real" women do. Neither my wife nor my daughters do. When a woman delivers a baby, the hospital often shaves the pubic hair. But from what I hear tell, for a week or so afterwards it is like have a porcupine between you legs.

The reason I say "real" women is that the American male worships immature women. The early issues of Playboy Magazine airbrushed out the genitilia of it models. This tended to have the models appear as pre-pubescent girls rather than women. This continues today (2009) in that the illusion of pornography is that the women are virgins having their first sex. There are exceptions to this.

Models are not "real" women - they are actors producing the illusions that sell.

Plenty of woman shave down to a strip because they feel this creates a more hygienic state of affairs, the risk of complete shaving isn't essential for this.

For sex: The erotic sensation very short hair (bristles) offer a male partner during intercourse is good enough for plenty of people, it also portrays an eagerness for sex making it attractive to nude models/pornographers.

For a minority, eg sex workers, protection from infestation, especially pubic lice (crabs) is a reason.

Women will often shave their genitals in an attempt to feel or look sexier, either for themselves or their partner. It's important to talk with your partner about what you like and what you don't like.
