Elephants do not exactly have fingers, but their trunk actually contains over 100,000 finger sized muscles. This gives them very fine control and dexterity. They can do very delicate tasks such as remove a peanut from the shell or paint a simple picture. The tip of the elephant's trunk has two extensions that are used like fingers for picking up objects and food.

For example, if a gorilla in a zoo saw a human give the middle finger all the time, the gorilla would learn how to give it to. Plus, since gorillas are really smart they, have learned how to use sign language in the past; and the middle finger is a part of sign language.
