They want to escape the Athenian law that requires Hermia to marry Demetrius instead of her true love, Lysander. They believe that by marrying outside of Athens, they can be together without the interference of the law.

This is the first point where everyone is all together, having a huge argument. Insults are thrown around, and people are constantly being hurt. When it all dies down and everyone falls asleep, Puck and Oberon "arrange" them, with love juice and out them in positions, so that when they wake up, they fall back in love with the correct person. then the play is performed at the wedding of Theseus and Hippolyta and everyone lives happily ever after
