Why do hindus do not pray lord Brahma?

I once asked a Vedantist Swami this very same question. I believe there are indeed only two temples left in India that are dedicated to Brahma specifically.

The Swami told me his theory. Of the Hindu Trinity, there is Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. Creator, Preserver, and Destroyer/Renewer, respectively. Many can identify with destruction and rebirth and death, it is all around us. The preservation of all creation is, of course, of utmost and practical importance. But creation is passive, once the deed is done. One can look forward to the cosmic dance of Shiva at the end of time, when the universe will fold in on itself, only to bloom once more. And one can enjoy the present moment, and Hindu mythology features the Avataras of Vishnu prominently. But having created the world, the principle aspect of Brahma is in the past, and perhaps that is why Brahma has fallen out of popularity with Hindu devotees.

Brahma's consort: Saraswati, represents creativity as opposed to creation, and culture as opposed to knowledge. This is again a more active role, rather than a passive one, and her popularity perhaps reflects this.

Having said this, Brahma is worshipped, only not on the scale that other Devas are. Anyone can of course worship Brahma, and no temple is required to do so, there being after all no formal dogma in Hinduism. But certainly there are many more devotees of Ganesh, Mahadevi, Shiva, and Vishnu.

LACK OF BRAHMA WORSHIP:

1. THE MYTHOLOGICAL REASONS FOR LACK OF BRAHMA WORSHIP:

A number of mythological reasons are given why Brahma is not worshiped.

1. Brahma took his creation Sarsawati as his consort. Since this amounts to incest he is not worshiped.

2. Brahma lied to Shiva that he could find the upper end of Shiva linga. Shiva cursed him that he wouldn't be worshiped.

3. Brahmarshi Bhrigu cursed him because when he went to Brahma to invite him for a Yagna he was deeply immersed in the music played by Saraswati and couldn't hear Bhrigu's calls.

2. BRAHMAJNANA REASON FOR LACK OF BRAHMA WORSHIP:

Brahma symbolizes voluntary force, a small, transient and totally controllable force, best suited for experiments. Thus, Brahma is ideal god for creation of a new life, after our life is devastated completely.

Brahma enables us to execute an activity independent of our status. If used recklessly it would result in creation of a secret demonic parallel life.

The killing of Ravana by Rama, Bali by Vamanavatara of Vishnu and Narakasura by Krishna are symbolic of the destruction of our demonic parallel life.

Thus, worship of Brahma as an independent god was discontinued as it often resulted in the creation of a demonic parallel life.

To understand why Lord Brahma the creator (not to be confused with Brahman) is not worshiped by Hindus, you will have to know the story of 'Testing the divine Trinity by Bhrigu'.

Maharishi Bhrigu the ManasaPutra (wish-born-son) of Lord Brahma, is one of the Saptarshis (seven great sages) and one of the Prajapatis.

Many great sages gathered at the bank of river Saraswati to participate in Maha yagya organized at that time. Maharishi Bhrigu was also present there. All the great saints and sages could not decide that out of the Trinity Lord Vishnu, Brahma and Shiva who is pre-eminent and to whom should they offer Pradhanta (Master) of that yagya. With the consent of all the great saints present there, it was decided that Maharishi Bhrigu will test and decide who was pre-eminent.

Upon being entrusted with the task Maharishi Bhrigu decided to test Lord Brahma first. He went on to see Lord Brahma in Brahmalok. On reaching Brahmalok Maharishi displayed utter disrespect to Lord Brahma on purpose. Lord Brahma got angry and wanted to punish Maharishi but Maha Saraswati, wife of Lord Brahma saved Maharishi from his anger. Angry with disrespect, Maharishi Bhrigu cursed Lord Brahma that no one will worship Brahma in Kaliyug. To this day, there are very few temples devoted to Lord Brahma (the notable exception being the Brahma Temple at Pushkar).

Maharishi Bhrigu then decided to visit Lord Shiva at Kailash Parvat. On reaching Kailash Parvat, Nandi stopped him from going inside because at that time, Shiva and Parvati were sporting fun.

Then in order to test Lord Vishnu, Maharishi reached Vaikunth Dham. He entered the Dham without Lord Vishnu's permission and saw that the Lord was resting at that time. Maharishi asked him to wake up, but Lord was in deep sleep. On seeing no reaction from Lord, Maharishi hit Lord Vishnu on his chest (that strike by Maharishi Bhrigu left a foot print on Lord's chest and that foot print is known as "Shri Vatsa").

Lord Vishnu got up after the strike and realized what has happened. On realizing that Maharishi had hit him with his foot, Lord asked him, "Maharishi, are you hurt in your foot? My chest is strong but your foot is not so strong". Seeing the decorum of Lord Vishnu, Bhrigu was pleased and declared him superior amongst the Tridev.

GOD is one and --- BRAHMA ,VISHNU,

SHIVA are three different qualities of god

as GENERATOR , OPERATER ,

DESTROYER .. GOD.

BUT as human beings misinterpret the

things so according to them BRAHMA - Gave birth so his part is done

and he can be of no use

VISHNU - Is operating and sustaining life

so he can help, let us pray to him

SHIVA - Will give death so better pray to

him so that he can delay it. Hahaha, it is funny but it might be
