Best Answer

Although hippos are herbivores, they will defend themselves if threatened. If a hippo feels threatened by a human, it will attack in order to survive because every animal has a survival instinct.

Mostly other hippos. A grown, healthy hippo is too big to be troubled by the usual carnivores, but particularly the bulls do fight between themselves a fair bit.

Elephants and Rhinos have been known to attack hippos as well, but it's rare.

Yes, hippo attacks are actually a real issue in some areas. For instance, in the Nile River area, people try to keep their distance from hippos. Hippos seem docile, but can easily defend themselves against other animals, such as a Nile crocodile. They can be rather aggressive.
