Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia says, "Wisdom teeth are vestigial third molars. In earlier times, when tooth loss in early adulthood was common, an additional molar had the potential to fill in a gap left by the loss of another tooth. It has also been postulated that the skulls of human ancestors had larger jaws with more teeth, which were possibly used to help chew down foliage to compensate for a lack of ability to efficiently digest the cellulose that makes up a plant cell wall. As human diet changed, a smaller jaw was selected by evolution, yet the third molars, or "wisdom teeth", still commonly develop in human mouths."
Good question. Because that's the way God made us? Animals have primary teeth also.
Primary teeth are small to fit the jaw and oral cavity size of little beings. As we grow, our mouths, jaw, head etc get bigger so we need bigger teeth.

Most children have a full set of 20 primary teeth by the time they are three years old. Between the ages of 6 and 12 years these teeth are gradually replaced with permanent adult teeth. These milk teeth, or primary teeth, start forming while the child is still in the womb. These are considered essential in the development of the oral cavities that will eventually guides for the permanent teeth.
Teeth can determine a person's age by the sequence that the teeth appear at particular ages. Lines that grow on the enamel of teeth, helps to show the age.

Teeth fall out randomly and there's no real pattern. Wisdom teeth are the last to grow but they do not push out any other teeth.
