Because the ligaments in your pelvis would much rather you didn't! Crossing your legs (and adopting various other positions) will put stress on your pelvic girdle, especially your symphysis pubis at the front. Try keeping your pelvis symmetrical - when standing, keep hips level; when lying, try being on your side with a pillow between your knees; when sitting, stay upright with both feet on the floor. You may have a mild case of SPD but it's probably just typical pregnancy discomfort so late in your pregnancy. Good luck, not long to go now...
