You might have a pinched nerve somewhere in your spine. Go to the chiropractor and get yourself checked out.
I have this too, and so does my coworker. It's called Ulnar Neuritis or Cubital Tunnel Syndrome. You probably have a pinched nerve in your elbow. It generally happens when I wake up after having slept with my arms at my side or resting my hands on my stomach while lying down. I don't know the cure, but it seems it's not related to anything spinal.
Not life threatening, but irritating, I agree. Good luck dealing with it. It's not so bad, once you know what's causing it and can exercise accordingly.
