Why do many people buy state lottery tickets even though they have very little chance of winning?

You can call it Gold Fever.
People dream of being the lucky "one" to get the 1st prize, even tho they know the chances of winning are near 0. Just like people moved to the mountains to find gold back in the days, in the hopes of hitting a huge gold ore, they rarely did.
It's naive to believe you'll win one day, but without people to buy the tickets, lotterys can't exist. It's born from the hopes of wealth and fortune. But won't get you anything but empty pockets.
