It makes life easier!

Our current mathematical culture is essentially that which arose in Europe during the Renaissance and eventually spread all over the world, so that now mathematicians all over the world, whether they from Europe, America, China, Russia, or anywhere else, belong to one culture. So all mathematicians tend to use the symbols that came from the European mathematical culture, and since there is a lot of communication between mathematicians in different countries, they tend to go on using the same symbols.
