I think that is an excuse made up to make it okay for men to cheat.
I think men are "spoilt" these days. Women are trained to be overcompensated for their relationships so men think it's okay to look around, believing that their girlfriends won't ever leave them. Which is perhaps why they're so shocked when you do. Men seem to think relationships last forever whereas women think relationships are temporary and that they can still break. Which is, I think, why women consciously take care of their relationships where men relax and take it for granted. I think that's why men apparently have a harder time with break ups.
