Because "everything" costs money. Do you think money grows on trees?? get a job and then you can buy whatever you want. And 90% of the requests are 'impulse buys' designed to get kids to make such requests and wear their parents down to buy them. Kids don't 'need' the things they ask for.
Money could be a reason. Other reasons could also be: * The mother is trying to teach the child the difference between what they want and what they need. * The child may not appreciate what they already have. * The child may not deserve it. * The child may not take care of what they already have. * The child may be asking for everything they see and really have no clue what they actually even want.
* She could just be really mean!
