It's cold up there! Plus, Canada's largest trading partner is the U.S., so there's going to be a lot of activity near the border. A third reason could be that some of the original settlements of what is now called called Canada started from the St. Lawrence River, right along the border.

Generally, the further from the equator you go, the colder it gets. Also, much of Northern Canada is above the Arctic Circle, and very difficult to live in. Alaska has the same kind of issues. It's huge, but freezing.

There are several reasons for this, for instance; the temperature difference. When you near the equator the temperature becomes warmer. Therefore the southern areas of Canada are warmer, also America is the centre of the world (:P lol jks) ,no but it is the main commercial and populated area in the world. Living closer to the Canada- America border provides ease of access when shopping visiting or traveling.
