As a result, the only places where people live in desert regions are areas with abundant water. Examples include the Nile Valley of Egypt where the Nile river runs through the desert, Iraq between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, Pakistan near the Indus River, and Souther California with the diverted water from the Colorado River. They do not live in the middle of the Sahara.
