Why do my Crookneck squash shrivel and die when they get to be about 3-4 inches?

Sounds like they arent getting pollinated. Try taking an artist's paintbrush, soft makeup brush, or a cotton swab and lightly brush inside a male flower (the ones with skinny stems) and then brush inside a female flower (the ones with little squash at the stems). Do this for all your flowers and see if they grow into full squash.
