Well in a way, they're not, as you normally call an entire living thing auto- or heterotrophic. An example of an autotrophic organism (living thing) would be a green plant, which makes it's own sugar in its leaves by capturing sunlight. In general, an autotrophic organism is an organism that captures it's own energy rather than getting it from another living thing. Roots can't capture light, being in the dark. They provide the water and minerals while the leaves make sugar.

Green plants use a process called photosynthesis to make food from sunlight. Only green plants can make their own food. Other plants (like mushrooms) and animals do not make their own food, but get nutrition from green plants (or dead green plants). Animals do not make food from sunlight. If they could, they would not need to eat.
1} autotrophs --- green plants are able to prepare their own food from simple raw materials ---- carbon dioxide from the air , and water from the soil. plants get the enegy for preparing food from sunlight. this mode of nutrition where green plants make food themselves from simple substances is called autotrophic nutrition. such plants are therefore called autotrophs. 2} hetrotrophs --- animals and non - green plants, such as fungi and bacteria, cannot prepare their own food. they depend directly or indirectly on green plants for their nutrition. this mode of nutrition is called hetrotrophic nutrition. animals and non - green plants are known as hetrotrophs.
all green plants have autotrophic mode of nutrition as they make their own food and animals have heterotrophic mode of nutrition as they depend on other organisms and plants for their food
The Venus flytrap is both heterotrophic and autotrophic.
The kind of nutrition in which an organism prepares its own food and does not depend on other organisms. Such type of nutrition is found in green plants having Chlorophyll, To manufacture their own food in the presence of sunlight. Just contrating to this are Heterotrophs (Heterotrophic nutrition), which depend on green plants or other organisms for food. Autotrophic nutrition provides food for the whole of the living world.
They depend on other living organisms for their nutrition .and it depends on their mode of nutrition...

glucose. this is made when plants transform the suns energy to sugar during the process of photosynhesis
it is the process in which plants having leaves which are not green coloured obtain there nutrition and then takes it enery and circulating it around the leaf
