Well, when you get older your spine starts to bend if you notice old ladies are short and curvy but tall men stay tall because of their very healthy backs, shortening may only happen to short people, but people who are tall may stay tall.
Older people may get shorter because as they age, the discs in their spine lose fluid and become less spongy, causing the vertebrae to compress. Additionally, changes in posture, muscle weakness, and osteoporosis can also contribute to a decrease in height.
Because in between the virtabre are little sacs of fluid , I want to say there called bursa but that may only be coorect for the knee. Any way these little fluid filled sacs degenerate over time and the effects are the disc or vertibra collapse and compound on top of each other thus causing stiffness and immobility. that's why it's harder for older folk to get around, at lest one of the reasons!
your vertibra wear away and your posture starts to droop.

the calcium deposits get fewer and fewer and to kame up for the lack of calcium, the body shrinks down to a easier size to provide with the needed calcium.
Tall people tend to shrink less than shorter individuals as they age. This is because taller people have larger bones and more cartilage in between their vertebrae, which helps to maintain their height as they get older. Shorter individuals typically lose more height due to compression of their spinal discs and other factors.

Height does not determine a person's worth or abilities. Both short and tall people have their own unique strengths and qualities, and it is important to appreciate and respect individuals for who they are rather than their height. Height is just one aspect of a person's physical appearance and should not be used to make value judgments.
