Why do people believe in a loving and just god if he strikes down a good young Muslim woman and causes a man to lose all faith?

First we must understand the purpose that God has for His children. When we were sent to this earth he gave us agency to choose right from wrong. He has to do this so that all mankind may be judged righteously for their acts while here upon the earth. War is of man's making not God's and the innocent will suffer because of these wars and contentions. If they are God fearing people they will receive their reward even though their lives were cut short.

I agree that the events that happen in the world my cause a person to loose their faith in God. They blame Him for all that we started. It is far better to loose our faith in mankind than in God.

We cannot know how or why a loving and just God can allow terrible tragedies to happen - and continue to happen. What we do know through the Holy Scriptures of many faiths is that God cares about our pain. Jesus, recognized as a prophet in Islam, wept when his friend Lazarus died, and did not resist being struck down and unjustly killed himself. We also know that when it is impossible for us to hold onto faith, God's faith holds onto us.

1- Why do we believe that Allah is the loving & the Just? because He is.

The Almighty Allah does love all His creatures including you. Yes, He loves us. He had created us from nothing & He submerges us with His favors, both seen & unseen.

He gives us a very expensive opportunity of having an extremely happy life in the Hereafter if we choose the righteous path in this fleeting life. Yes, Allah is loving.

2- Who are we to question our Creator?! Who are we to protest against His fate? We can not ask Him, O Allah why did you allow this? or why didn't you allow that?

Allah says:

(He cannot be questioned for His acts, but they will be questioned (for theirs)).

Holy Quran,(21:23).

we always have to show Him our obedience & gratefulness. We have to completely submit to Him, isn't that what does the word "Islam" mean?

3- Moving to the other point;when facing difficulties & disappointments.

First of all, do you think that there's a person on the planet who is exempt from suffering pain?! No, there isn't.

All of us face problems & of all types, sometimes they are so severe just like yours or even much harder!! what differs from a person to another is the reaction towards these problems. So, what are we supposed to do? we have to ask Allah for help & patience must top the list.

each problem needs our patience & the Great Allah commands us to be patient & tells us that He loves those who are patient. yes, it's difficult, you may shed a lot of tears, your heart may be deeply hurt but you have to try & try until you succeed in achieving that. Just remember these verses that contain Divine promises from Allah.

He says:

(...those who patiently persevere will truly receive a reward without measure!)

Holy Quran,(39:10).

& He says:

(...And Allah Loves those who are firm and steadfast)

Holy Quran,(3:146)

4- Undoubtedly,Allah is the Fair. Even if there are things in this life that make us wonder at this truth it's still a truth. What we see in this life is not the whole story! what we witness is just incomplete stories, don't you believe in the hereafter life?don't you believe in what is called the last day of judgement? yes,you do. At that day the conclusion of all stories will be, the good will be rewarded & the bad will be punished.

We have to be good believers, doing good deeds in abundance, as much as we can, showing our thankfulness to the Almighty Allah at all cases, if He is pleased with us which is our target then there will never be any more pain when meeting Him,no pain at all .

5- At all cases,we are tested. In good events as well as in the bad ones.

If you receive a good gift from Allah, never attribute it to yourself but to Him, never turn into a boasting arrogant, never forget to thank Allah & never hesitate to help others & give them from His gift to you. when encountering a hardship, you have to be patient, never let that shake your faith & always trust in your God, that He knows, sees,hears,understands you & will help you, compensate & reward you.

Allah says about His test to us in this life:

( Do men think that they will be left alone on saying, "We believe", and that they will not be tested? We did test those before them, and Allah will certainly know those who are true from those who are false).

6- In such events we have nothing to do to change them, what happened had already happened & that had occured certainly according to the unlimited knowledge & wisdom of Allah, many times we can't realize His wisdom but it is always existent even if we ignore it. In Islam, belief in predestination is among the pillars of faith. you have to remember that & to understand that it doesn't contradict the concept of our free will/choice in the other events that we have a hand in, like for example the matter of faith, we are all responsible for it.

7- Don't loose your faith for any reason! it's the most valuable treasure you have in your life, it's in brief your life. Don't obey Satan who always try to make us turn away from the path of our Creator, Allah. Don't lend him an ear, reject all his misleading whispers as we all have to do. Satan is our foster enemy since the time of Adam & Eve, so don't listen to him & allow him to deceive you by creating this idea of loosing faith.

8- you said that this woman was a good Muslim woman, May Allah rest her soul in peace. Don't you know that the best thing ever for the believer is to meet his/her Creator? I know you know it & you have not to forget it.

Another thing, you have to quickly return to Allah, nothing can make you distant from Him, Allah is loving & compassionate & He always accept us. Be a good Muslim & don't leave this life except as a good Muslim then you will be with all the believers whom you love in Allah's heavens forever,by Allah's leave.

(Be sure we shall test you with something of fear and hunger, some loss in goods or lives or the fruits (of your toil), but give glad tidings to those who patiently persevere,

Who say, when afflicted with calamity: "To Allah We belong, and to Him is our return" They are those on whom (Descend) blessings from Allah, and Mercy, and they are the ones that receive guidance)
