Because 'people' are ignorant or have been brainwashed by other ignorant people, sometimes the media. And because people in mainstream society can often be extremely simple minded and superficial, only taking notice or consideration of what they can see on the outside.
Also, Goths do not all worship Satan, there is no official religion of the goth scene. They also rarely listen to Marilyn Manson. These things are usually reserved for confused teenagers who are going through a phase and are very lost and confused about life. People who are actually part of the Gothic scene recognize the damage that Marilyn Manson has done to their way of life by making Goths look like violent and suicidal people when in actuality most of them are not.
