Cancer is caused by a mutation that causes uncontrollable mitotic divisions. Over the years, the ability to detect cancers and treat them in their early stages has improved greatly, but unless people are regularly checked for cancer in its early stages, there is a good chance that by the time their symptoms are noticeable, it will be too late to save them. So to answer your question, it is because there is no known treatment for later stages of cancer.

The question of who dies from cancer and who lives is one that puzzles the best doctors and surgeons. There is no solid answer.

People with compromised immune systems often die rather quickly from cancer. People with other comorbidities often die from cancer. And people with a very limited will to live often are victims of the disease. But many people who fit these categories live.

All people have genetic differences that help them resist disease. Some people are much more prone to deadly cancers and some are more resistant.

Sometimes it is luck - whether the physician discovered the tumor in time, whether the surgeon found all of it, whether a minor complaint about a backache is traced to a still-small cancer or instead is treated with aspirin and Tylenol.

This is a myth. Cancer rates are actually going down. According to About.com, an estimated 40% of cancer patients reach or exceed the five year survival mark. Additionally, Discovery Health conducted a poll. 68% of respondents agreed that the risk of dying from cancer in the United States is increasing.

According to Discovery Health, the risk of dying from cancer has decreased since the early 1990s. Furthermore, there are people who are completely cured. Even in patients whose cancer isn't cured, their quality of life is increased by cancer treatments.

Another important thing you should know is cancer isn't treated the same way. Cancer is actually a group of diseases. There are different cancers that are caused by different things, and are obviously going to be treated differently because different cancers act differently. You wouldn't solve all problems the same way would you? Of course not.

Different patients get treated different ways with prescriptions. A prescription is a custom made treatment for a patient for their unique situation. This is why you should never take someone else's prescription.

Hope this answers your question fully.

People have cancer because their cells mutate to not have the organelle that kills the cell. These cells form a tumor that unless treated will not stop growing. That tumor is called cancer.
